Bike-rider struck by semi in Washburn

30-year-old dies in Highway 37 incident

A Washburn man died today in a bicycle-semi collision at 11:05 a.m. on Highway 37, south of Highway 90 in Washburn.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, James Fogarty, 30, of Washburn, was eastbound on a Schwinn bicycle and failed to yield to a southbound 2018 Kenworth tractor-trailer, being driven by Stevie Johnson Jr., 36, of Fayetteville, which struck the bicycle.

Fogarty was pronounced dead on the scene at 11:30 a.m. by Barry County Coroner Gary Swearingen. Next of kin have been notified.

He was transported to White Funeral Home in Cassville

This is the 133rd fatality of the year for Troop D of the patrol, which covers 18 counties in southwest Missouri, including Barry.
