Nominations being accepted for MU Council

Nominations are being accepted for the January 2024 election of the University of Missouri Extension Council in Barry County. Council members are elected or appointed to two-year terms and may not serve more than two consecutive terms. Nominees must be at least 18 and must reside in the district from which they are selected. Nominations must be made prior to Dec. 7. “We want nominees who are interested in improving our community and the education of our youth,” said Becky Wogoman, Council chair. “The resources of the University of Missouri System and Lincoln University are available to us through this statewide partnership. We need active council members who recognize the needs in the community and can help plan, locate funds and promote educational programs with University of Missouri Extension specialists.” MU Extension offers educational programs in agriculture and natural resources, families, business and workforce development, community development, youth development, community health and various continuing education courses, seminars and workshops. Nominations may be made through Wogoman or the county extension center at 417-847-3161 or Barryco@missouri.edu. Nominees will be contacted to secure their permission to place their names on the January 2024 ballot.

11th Annual Frontier Days this weekend

The 11th Annual Frontier Days will be held Saturday and Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. both days. Cowboy Church is on Sunday at 10 a.m. Attractions including sorghum cooking, blacksmithing, music, food, crafts, spinning, free wagon rides, cane bottom chair weaving and much more. The event will be held at 12918 Farm Road 1157, Aurora, MO 65605. The farm is 7.8 miles outside of Cassville off Highway 248. Zone 4 to host Fall Flea Market

Zone 4 Mini Golf and More, located at 16007 Hwy. 76 in Cassville, will host a Fall Flea Market on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will have vendors selling crafts, primitives, antiques, collectibles and more. Grilled food, concessions and games will also be available.

Senior Center to host Bazaar

The Cassville Senior Center is seeking arts and crafts vendors for a Holiday Craft Bazaar, scheduled for Nov. 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Center, located at 1111 Fair St. in Cassville. The cost is $25 per table, and proceeds benefit the Center. Table availability is limited, and people may register at the Cassville Senior Center and pay in person or mail the registration and payment to the Center. Cassville Farmers’ Market open twice per week

The Cassville Farmers’ Market is open for the season, running twice a week on Tuesdays from 4-7 p.m. across from Security Bank and Saturdays on the Cassville Square from 8 a.m. to noon. Old Church Gallery Farmers’ Market open

The Old Church Gallery Farmers’ Market runs every Thursday from 8-11 a.m. The Market offers fresh produce, eggs, jellies, relishes, baked goods, cut flowers, handmade crafts and more. OATS rides available in Barry County

OATS Transit offers regular transportation services for the rural general public of any age, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. Please call the local OATS Transit office at 417-887-9272 or 800-770-6287 to schedule a ride or find out about services in the Barry County area. People may also visit the OATS website at oatstransit.org to view local schedules under “Bus Schedules,” then click on the county of service. OATS offices will be closed, and regular routes will not be running on Feb. 20 for Presidents’ Day. Please keep this in mind as trips are scheduled near these holidays. OATS Transit is hiring drivers statewide to can continue serving riders. Openings are listed on the OATS website.

Seligman dances ongoing each Saturday

The Seligman Chamber of Commerce country dances at the Seligman Chamber Event Center are every Saturday from 7-10 p.m. No alcohol is allowed. Admission is $10 per person, and 18-and-under are free. There is a potluck, 50-50 drawing and door prizes. For more information, people may call 479-903-3640.
