Jig On the Water

August 30, 2023

The river is clearer now, but still not completely clear, running at 32 CFS at the moment.

The trout are taking dries again pretty good, and they are still eating beetles, ants, hoppers, small stimulators, caddis and blue wing olives, and there are still nice trico hatches first thing in the morning, midges almost all day and a few sulphurs in the evening.

Fishing drys, I’ll usually use 9’ 7X leaders, unless I’m throwing a big hopper, or a big beetle.

Mega worms, mop flies and Glo balls have been very effective all week, and pheasant tails and sow bugs have also been very good.

Copper johns and black zebra midges did very well. Using nymphs, I’ll usually use a 9’ 6X leader. Black, olive, brown and tan woolly buggers worked well all week.

The yellow, pink and brown power bait 1-inch crawlers worked all week, and white, orange and pink eggs also did very well.

White, orange and cheese yellow worms also did very well this week.

Spinners do well early (30-minute wonders) in black, brown, frog green and white.

Gold spoons did well, fished slowly and close to the bottom.

Good luck on the river this week!
