Sept. 6, 1972 Almon Maus, Monett Attorney, was named to the Missouri Bar Judicial Poll Committee for the area. The members were tasked with conducting a poll to determine attitudes toward the performance of those judges serving under the non-partisan court plan were set to run in the November eneral Election.

Texans from all over the Ozark Area met at Roaring River State Park Sunday, Sept. 10 in celebration of their 22nd annual Texas Picnic and Reunion. Each Texas family in the area was urged to attend this occasion bringing a picnic basket lunch to be spread for everyone to enjoy.

The Butterfield School Homecoming was held September 17 in the Butterfield Methodist Church wit a basket dinner scheduled for the noon hour and an afternoon program planned.

Sept 1, 1982 A 10-county meeting of southwest Missouri counties was scheduled in Cassville, according to Assessor Glen Nicoll. Cassville will host a session of assessors and project supervisors in the current reassessment arrangements in the counties.

Barry County’s unemployment rate for July stood at 8.4 percent according to the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations. this was .5 percent below the state average. The U.S. rate was 9.8 percent for the month. Adjoining county rates included Lawrence 7.5; McDonald 9.3; Jasper-Newton 9.0; and Stone 6.3.

Area motorists got a pre-Labor Day driving bonus this last week as gasoline prices dropped five cents a gallon. Current prices, estimated by at least one supplier as “liable to last awhile” were $1.13.9 for regular grade and $1.18.9 for unleaded fuel. The pricing that commenced Saturday is the first drop in this area for several months.

Aug. 19, 1992 Barry County saw record enrollment in seven area school districts with Cassville seeing an increase of 37 students. Jenkins reported an enrollment increase of five and Shell Knob had an increase of 14 students. Other districts reporting increased attendance were Southwest, Exeter, Wheaton and Purdy. School administrators said school openings went without problems. Some noted there were transportation situations that would be altered to meet student needs in the future.

Jim Fry, manager of the Cassville Walmart for the past two years, was promoted and transferred to the company store in Sullivan. No replacement for the local position was announced.

A centennial of St. Peter and Paul Parish at Pulaskifield was observed Sept. 5 and Sept. 6 during regular Utza observances. Included in the 1892-1992, 100-year recognition, the U.S. Postal Service provided a pictorial cancellation at the site Sunday, September 6.
