County sets $8.59M budget
The Barry County Commission has approved the annual budget for 2026, preparing to spend up to $8.59 million across all departments and funds, $2 million more than last year after agreeing to move that equal amount into the reserve fund.

Man charged with kidnapping
A Washburn man is facing three felonies and a misdemeanor after allegedly breaking into a victim’s home, kidnapping and transporting the victim to another residence, then not allowing the victim to leave or call for help.
Weather spotting classes coming to Cassville, Monett
The Barry County Office of Emergency Management will host a pair of weather spotting classes on Feb. 7 and Feb. 24, aimed at informing not only first responders, but also the public, on how they can spot dangerous weather and what to do when it occurs.
9 pounds of meth found just west of county line
Two people were arrested on Jan. 13 following a McDonald County and Ozarks Drug Enforcement Team bust in Powell, just west of the Barry County line, that allegedly turned up nearly 9 pounds of methamphetamine.
Woman charged with welfare fraud
A Cassville woman has been charged with two felonies for allegedly defrauding the state of public assistance benefits to the tune of nearly $40,000.
2 injured in Hwy. 90 wreck
Two people were injured in a single-vehicle wreck at 6:35 a.m. on Jan. 14 on Highway 90, two miles west of Washburn.
E9-1-1 earns award for dispatch excellence
Barry County Emergency Services E9-1-1 has been recognized by The International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED) as an Accredited Center of Excellence (ACE) for emergency medical dispatching and emergency police dispatching.
