CHS jazz band earns top honors in competitive season

The Cassville High School Jazz Band is off to a strong start in its 2026 competitive season, earning top ratings and individual honors at multiple collegiate festivals across the region.

The season began in February with a clinic at Southwest Baptist University, giving students an opportunity to work with college clinicians and refine their performance skills. Since then, the High School Jazz Band has competed at both the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg and Pittsburg State University, where the ensemble earned the highest possible rating of 1 — equivalent to a Gold rating — at each event.

In addition to the outstanding group performances, several CHS musicians were recognized for exceptional musicianship. Students receiving individual honors included Caiden Edie on drums, Maura Boise on trombone, Sterling Zucca on trumpet, and Aubrey Conrad on vibraphone.

The High School Jazz Band wrapped up its competitive season on Saturday with a final performance in Neosho.

The Middle School Jazz Band has also enjoyed a successful season. The group competed at Pittsburg State University for its first contest of the year, earning a 2+ rating.

At the Pitt State festival, Trystan Moore earned that exceptional musicianship award for the middle school jazz band.

Both jazz band shared their music with the community at the 6th Annual Blues & BBQ event on Friday. The event serves as a fundraiser hosted by the Cassville Band Boosters, with proceeds benefiting the district’s band program.
