National Night Out in Monett gives minors the chance to see how alcohol can impair judgment while driving with drunk driving goggles. Jessica Breger/Special to the Monett Monthly Monett Police Chief George Daoud presents Kathy Aldridge of Walmart with the 2025 Community Service Award for Walmart’s contributions to the community throughout the year at the city’s annual National Night Out event. The city of Monett held the event on Oct. 7, inviting local residents to gather at the city pavilion to meet their local law enforcement and learn about their different functions. National Night Out is a community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie that law enforcement across the country participate in each year. The goal of the program is to bring a true sense of community by enhancing the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement. Local residents got to enjoy a free pork sandwich dinner, live music, games and demonstrations by different law enforcement agencies and community programs.
