Police: Missing doctor died of gunshot wound

Body discovered by kayaker in Beaver Lake

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office in Arkansas has confirmed the body of Dr. John Forsyth, missing Cassville ER physician, was located Tuesday afternoon in Beaver Lake.

Lt. Shannon Jenkins, PIO for the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, said on May 30, at approximately 4:43 p.m., Benton County deputies received a 911 call from a kayaker who had located a body in the water near the bank across from the Lost Bridge South Park area on Beaver Lake.

Dr. Forsyth was found deceased, in the water, with what appears to be a gunshot wound. 

Benton County detectives are working this death investigation alongside the Barry County Sheriff’s Office, Cassville Police Department, and Missouri State Police.

This is an active investigation and no further information will be released at this time, Jenkins said.

Forsyth was reported missing from Cassville on May 21, last seen at about 7 a.m. at Mercy Cassville Hospital.
