January 3, 1972

Efforts for the Heart Fund Drive in Cassville in 1972 were coordinated by co-chairmen Don Peterson, local druggist, and Marlee Edie, cashier of the First National Bank.

Among the appointments to U.S. Military academies announced jointly by congressman Durward Hall and Congressman-elect Gene Taylor from the Seventh Congressional District the first week of January 1972 was Lane W. Hallenbeck, son of Brig. General and Mrs. Ralph Hallenbeck of Monett. General Hallenbeck, who retired from the Air Force, is the nephew of Mrs. Norma Brixey and Curtis Thomas of Cassville.

December 29, 1982

The State Department of Education classified the Exeter R-6 School District AA for the 1982-83 school year, reported Dr. Calvin Baker, superintendent. The school received this notice from J.P. Newell, Jr., assistant commissioner of education. The school was visited earlier in the year by Jack Freeman, the state supervisor for this part of the state. Freeman was pleased with the progress the school was making.

Cassville Rotary Club named new officers in its final meeting of 1982. The officers that assumed their posts were President Elect Marvin Grandy, Secretary-treasurer Jim Haenig and bulletin editor Jerry Marple. Two directors were chosen, Lige Frost and John Starchman.

December 23, 1992

Maya Sardjono, daughter of former Cassville residents Dr. and Mrs. Herman Sardjono, was named a royal court princess of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses New Years Day in 1983. The high school senior was one of six chosen for the honor. Dr. Sardjono practiced medicine in Cassville for a number of years before moving to San Marino in the Los Angeles area. A high school senior, Maya was set to appear on New Year’s morning television as part of the parade/ Janice Varner of Washburn was named associate division deputy clerk by judge Edward Sweeny. Varner replaced Marci LePage of Anderson, who was transferred in the Missouri Court System to Newton County.
