Lady Wildcats’ streak snapped, but tourney title on line Thursday

The Cassville girls basketball team (7-2) saw a five-game win streak snapped on Dec. 21 with a 40-36 loss to Blue Eye. The Lady Wildcats won the five prior, defeating Greenwood, 47-46 in overtime; Mt. Vernon, 44-38; Wheaton, 55-22; Sarcoxie, 36-32; and Reeds Spring, 35-18. The Lady Wildcats are playing in the Southwest Tournament this week, where they were runners-up last year. Cassville opened play Monday against Wheaton, picking up a 59-39 win. The Lady Wildcats followed up that win with a 41-37 victory over Pierce City, setting up a rematch of last year’s Southwest Holiday Tournament title match with Gentry (Ark.). That game is set for Thursday at 3 p.m.

Cassville heads to Neosho today

The Cassville boys basketball team takes a 6-2 record into the 16-team Neosho Holiday Classic today. The Wildcats defeated Blue Eye at home on Wednesday, 59-42, after falling to Branson at home the day before, 72-48. The Wildcats were riding a four-game win streak prior to that loss. They open play today in the Neosho Holiday Classic against Neosho at 5:30 p.m.

Lady ‘Cats bring home bling

The Cassville girls wrestling team turned in one championship performance, three runner-up finishes and two thirdplace medals at the Battle for the Bling in Fayetteville (Ark.) Dec. 16-17, also taking fifth as a team. Faith James led the way for Cassville, earning the only gold with five round of victories in a round robin bracket. Silver medals went to Kailey Artherton, Annie Moore and Hailey Roark, and third-place finishes went to Kennedy Truman and Taylor Glidewell.
