A total of 13 girls wrestled in two 120-pound brackets at the Nixa Girls Invite on Dec. 12, but none were any match for the tandem of Kailey Artherton and Annie Moore.
The pair took gold medals in the 120 and 120B brackets, respectively, and four more Lady Wildcats medaled at the event — two silver and two bronze. As a team, Cassville took third place overall.
Artherton pinned her first two opponents in less than a minute, then won her semifinal match by fall in 4:32. In the championship, she went the distance, earning a 14-5 major decision after scoring a pair of 3-point nearfalls in the second and third periods.
Moore, in a five-person round robin bracket, spent a combined 1:14 on the mat for the day, earning pins of all opponents at 12, 16, 15 and 31 seconds.
Faith James, at 135 pounds, and Hailey Roark, at 140 pounds, each took second in their respective brackets.
James earned pins through the semifinals, but lost in the championship by sudden victory, 11-9. Roark did the same, but was pinned in the championship by Clinton’s Amitria McNack, last year’s third-place finisher at state that eliminated James in the 135-pound bracket.
Cassville also had two thirdplace finishers, 110-pounder Kennedy Truman and 190-pounder Taylor Glidewell.
Truman was pinned in her opening match but earned falls in her next two at 1:21 and 51 seconds. In the third-place match, she pinned her Branson opponent in under a minute.
Glidewell followed a similar path, lowing a 9-6 decision in her opener but getting a pin in 15 seconds and another in 26 second to reach the bronze-medal match. It took only 11 seconds there for her to come up with the fall.
Outside the hardware, 155-pounder Rebekah Fry finished in fourth place, and Saige Holman, at 145 pounds, took fifth place.
Cassville continued wrestling through the week with two triads, facing Diamond and Nevada on Dec. 13 and Branson and Marshfield on Dec. 14.
