Dec. 6, 1972

State Trooper Don Myers, now stationed at Rolla, was scheduled for a transfer to Troop D headquartered in Springfield after the first of the year. Trooper Myers and family, natives to this area, have not announced a permanent station in the troop area.

Barry County agents sold a total of 1,446 gun deer permits during the season of 1972, according to County Clerk Chester Snider. There were 1,391 residents and 55 non-resident gun permits sold, down slightly from the nearly 1,500 sold in 1971.

City tax collections in Cassville were reported to be running ahead of last year, according to Collector Christine Bradley. Payments from residents in October 1972 were $7,230.70 and $13,166.41 in November.

Dec. 1, 1982

Cassville Smith Florist on Main Street completed a remodeling project, according to Owner Dora Steverson. She said both a new front and interior project were completed in time for an open house scheduled in early December.

The winner of the Cassville VFW sponsored Voice of Democracy contest was Susan Stockton, a Cassville High School student of Mrs. Glenda Ward. Her speech, “Youth – America’s Strength,” was entered in district competition, said Mrs. Art Axley. Other places in the competition went to Tom Lowder, who earned second, and Lorie Smith, who placed third.

Nov. 25, 1992

Bald Eagles were returning to Barry County along with the cold weather. Both mature and younger birds were sighted in the Roaring River State Park area for the previous couple weeks. Eagle presence was also noted in the Washburn Prairie area and at locations around Table Rock Lake and obituaries in this area. The protected birds usually arrive with the advent of cold weather, staying until about the first of March.

The Cassville congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses dedicated its new Kingdom Hall November 26 with a program, and open house. Program participants included Gerald D. Grizzle, John Johnson, Sam Johnson, Robert Sorensen, Larry Willis and Dale Crownhart.
