A Barry County man has been arrested and charged with three felonies in relation to an alleged knife-point robbery in Purdy.

Rene Castillo 36, of Barry County, is charged with attempted robbery, armed criminal action and resisting arrest. According to a probable cause statement filed by Russ Nichols, deputy with the Barry County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at about 2:27 a.m. on May 14 at a home in the 300 block of 3rd street in Purdy. Castillo allegedly entered a detached shed behind the residence, activating a security camera. The victim went to the shed to investigate, and it appeared Castillo had left, then he re-entered the shed and attempted to rob the victim of $100.

Castillo allegedly threatened to kill the victim while displaying a 12-inch lock blade knife, which Nichols said could be seen on camera.

The suspect fled on foot when Nichols arrived on the scene. Nichols said Castillo had multiple active warrants at the time of the incident and was considered to be armed and dangerous. Castillo is being held in the Barry County jail on a cash-only bond of $20,000. He has been arraigned, and a bond hearing is set for Thursday at 9 a.m. in the courtroom of Judge Robert Foulke.
