May 31, 1972

The Cassville United Methodist Church has a new pastor. Rev. Earl Knowles was assigned here by the Missouri Conference of United Methodist Churches. He will be replacing Rev. Harold Hunter, who has retired.

First action was taken this week on land to be condemned for Highway 39 to be relocated. Barry County Circuit Court Judge William Pinnell ordered 17 parcels of land condemned out of 42 properties involved.

Dave Sater, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Sater of Springfield, has joined the staff of Peterson Drug in Cassville.

Miss Pauline Cox, a member of the Cassville High School faculty for the past 40 years, was recognized Saturday night at the annual Alumni Banquet for her 50 years of teaching in Barry County.

Cassville Rotarians are putting the finishing touches on the all-new rodeo arena just in time for this year’s rodeo. The new facility is on land donated to the club by Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hailey.

Barry County’s delegates to State 4-H Week in Columbia are: Janet Watley, Pam Lemmon, Jo Nell Vincent, Karen Mattingly, Jill Shepherd, Ricky Gentry, Doug Bowman, Randy Schmidt and David Cornman.

Speaker for this Saturday night’s annual Cassville Alumni Banquet will be a CHS graduate, class of 1946, Dr. Ray Rowland, according to Wayne Smithson, president.

Brenda Pitts, a standout athlete at Southwest School and MSSC, has been employed to oversee the Cassville city park summer program, according to an announcement from Cassville Mayor Bill LeCompte.

The Barry County Chapter of the American Red Cross provided 62 pints from volunteer donors when the bloodmobile visited Cassville last week. Noted on the donor list was Carolyn Navarre, for being a three-gallon donor.

May 20, 1992

Barry County Sheriff Ralph Hendrix reported his deputies pulled about 42 marijuana plants in the county last week. Deputy Mick Epperly was in charge of the destruction of the plants.

The American Legion members were busy this week preparing for Saturday’s dedication ceremony. Wommack Monument Company crews installed a large stone at the Cassville Legion home as part of the memorial to those who have served in the Armed Forces.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mitchell, of Seligman, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday with a reception at the Lions Club building hosted by their children and grandchildren.
