Rock ’n Roll, it’s summer school

After the goodbyes on the last day of school, and a brief break from pencils and crayons, some students head back to the classroom for a few weeks of summer school.

Cassville

Cassville’s last day of school is Thursday, with a release at 1 p.m.

Summer school will start on May 31 and continue until June 24. Hours are from 7:50 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free breakfast and lunch will be served daily, breakfast will be served at 7:30 a.m.

The Cassville summer school theme is “Step Into Adventure.”

Cassville will continue offering the YMCA water safety program for first-graders. Partnerships with local stakeholders include:

• YMCA for Water Safety for first-graders

• Cassville Public Library – checkout books and assemblies

• Barry County MU Extension Nutrition Class

• Carroll County Electric coming to present Electric Town as well as hosting an assembly with a magician

Field trips students will take include:

• Elementary: Roaring River, War Eagle, Springfield Nature Center

• Middle School: George Washington Carver, Wildcat Glades, Ralph Foster Museum at College of the Ozarks

Students also go to the YMCA Aquatic Center every Friday, and will have a supply Drive for Haven of the Ozarks

One art class is refurbishing a piece of furniture for the Haven to sell and use the profits as they need.

Throughout all of summer school there will also be a focus on how to serve others and why it is important to serve.

Students Serve Day is on June 21, when all students on campus will serve others

Middle Schoolers will go to Haven of the Ozarks, grades 3-5 will pick up trash on Greenway Trail

Pre-K through second grade still in the works, and all activities are free.

If a child will ride the bus, parents can contact the office to see the bus schedule.

Exeter

Exeter’s last day of school was May 13, and summer school starts on Monday and goes until June 24.

Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. and the day ends at 3 p.m.

Exeter will have beforeschool and after-school programs for students as well from 7-7:30 a.m. for morning care, and 3:00 p.m. to 5 p.m. for after school care.

Grades that are attending are incoming kindergarten through incoming eighth-graders.

Exeter’s overall theme for summer school this year is “Get to … Summer School.”

Each week will have a different “Get to … “ theme and the activities and field trips will be centered around those themes.

The Exeter school district is excited to begin the summer school program and they look forward to extended learning for students.

Wheaton

Wheaton’s last day of school is Thursday, with summer school beginning on May 23 and ending on June 17.

Summer school goes from 7:50 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. and can be attended by students from kindergarten to seniors.

Elementary Theme is “Around the World.” Students will be studying the countries that some of our students are from. The countries are Mexico, Guatemala, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, and Micronesia. Field trips will be taken, but that has not been determined yet.

Southwest

The last day of school at the Southwest School District will be May 25 at 12:30 p.m.

Summer school will run from June 1-28. Summer school is open to all students for both remediation and acceleration.

Hours of attendance for students are from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Free breakfast and lunch will be available for students.
