The country band Outlaw Reloaded brought a rocking country sound to the Downtown Pavilion stage for Sound and Smoke. They closed with Hank Williams Jr.’s “It’s a Family Tradition.” Murray Bishoff/Special to the Monett Monthly Participating merchants like Briar House Brewery packed in the crowds for Sound and Smoke. This was the early evening scene with Mark Sebastian playing at rear left. Live music was also offered through the day at Great Dave’s and Romy’s restaurant. Murray Bishoff/Special to the Monett Monthly Mike Bennett of Eagle Logistics in Purdy showed off his ribs offered in the Backyard Barbecue Showdown for the Sound and Smoke Festival. Bennett won first place for his ribs. The prize for the best barbecued wings went to Ted VanZandt with D1 Resources of Joplin and Billings. The People’s Choice Award for pork tenderloin also went to Eagle Logistics of Purdy. Murray Bishoff/Special to the Monett MonthlyThese were some of the 31 vendors offering crafts, food, and services at the Smoke and Sound Festival in Monett, set up in the new Freedom Park on Front Street, east of Fifth Street. The festival was organized by Monett Main Street, with support from the Monett Area Chamber of Commerce. There were also food trucks on hand and a display of city vehicles, including the mobile emergency command center and the city’s military MRAP (mine-resistant ambush protected vehicle) available for rescues and extractions.
