Monett Stake hosts ’70s dance mixer

Locals attend annual event in costume

The annual dance of the Monett Missouri Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, held April 26 in the Monett building’s gym, was themed  “70’s Dance Mixer.”

As attendees entered the “Studio 54 “doorway, they were greeted by booming disco music from the 1970s, strobe rings and lights, glitter/disco balls, flashy bell-bottomed costumes, a well-stocked food table, exuberant dancers and tables for watchers.

Among the variety of the 130 Southwestern Missouri attendees included Monett Mayor Randy Burke; Monett Missouri Stake President Paul Fields, of Carthage, and his wife, Diana, in their costumes; First Counselor in the Monett Missouri Stake Presidency, Kirt Bliss, of Stockton, and his wife, Kathleen; Adam Bourgeous, Lamar Branch President, and his wife, Susan; Trent and Michele Oliphant, of Cassville; and Sarah and James Gustaveson, of Verona.

Eric and Diana Allphin, of Granby, were the winners of the costume contest. However, all got to show off their costumes and/or disco skills when participants formed two parallel lines and each couple danced down the middle.

Thanks go to John Moser, of Neosho, the DJ for the evening, and to Diana Allphin, who chaired such a fun dance.
