Cassville unloads on Carl Junction
The Cassville softball team (4-3) unloaded a barrage of runs on Carl Junction last week, logging a 15-1 win on the road. Elly Ramaeker led the Lady Wildcats in hits with 4, and Ryleigh Burnette added 3. Isabelle Edwards, Kenzie Dilbeck and Kalee Lowe each knocked two. Edwards, who hit a home run, and Ramaeker led the team in RBI with 4 each. Lowe accounted for 3 RBI, and Burnette added 2 more. Burnette went 4-for-4 at the plate with two singles, a double and a walk. Edwards pitched all five innings to earn the win. She gave up 1 earned run and struck out 6 batters. Since the big win, Cassville has dropped a pair of road contests, 15-4 to Nevada and 2-0 to Joplin. The Lady Wildcats hit the road again on Saturday for a double header with Dora and Reeds Spring. The result of Tuesday’s road game against Logan-Rogersville was not available at presstime. Cassville’s long-awaited home opener is set for Monday at 4:30 p.m. against Marshfield.
Wildcats shine at Aurora XC meet
The Cassvill cross country teams performed well at the Hot Dawg Cross Country Invitational in Aurora on Thursday. The boys finished in first place, and the girls took second. Leading the pack for the Wildcats was Caleb Leach, who finished in 2nd individually in 18:17, only 6 seconds behind the winner, a Carl Junction runner. Ethan Bohmke was 6th in 19:34, Jacob Martinez was 7th in 19:47 and Charles Elliott was 14th in 20:40. As a team, Cassville ran a 19:5 average. For the girls, familiar spring track names led the pack. Jolie Evans took 2nd in 21:53, Annie Moore finished 5th in 22:50, Dakotah Anderson took 14th in 25:37 and Marianne McCrackin was 15th in 25:52. The winner on the girls’ side was an Aurora runner who posted a scorching 20:56. As a team, the Lady Wildcats ran a 24:45 average.
