Paul Dean Hughes, 89, of Neosho, passed away Saturday, Aug. 28, 2021, in Neosho.

He was born Oct. 23, 1931, in Fairview, the son of Sherman and Lola (Tichenor) Hughes.

He graduated from Wheaton High School. He later enlisted in the Navy, where he served in the Korean War on the CA124 USS Rochester. During his time in the Navy, he met and married Florence, and they have been married for 65 years. In the late 70s, they bought a small farm in Rocky Comfort they called “The Seldom Rest Ranch.” They lived there for many years before moving to Neosho.

Survivors include: his wife, Florence Hughes; one son, Mike Hughes and his wife Tena Hughes; one daughter, Paula Arguello and her husband Manny Arguello; one brother, Floyd Hughes of Wheaton; nine grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Richard Hughes and two brothers, Argyl and Manville Hughes.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at McQueen Funeral Home in Wheaton.
