Trio of Wildcats going to state

Three Cassville track and field athletes punched their tickets to the Class 3 State Track and Field Championships on Saturday in Jefferson City. At the sectional in Camdenton, David Oliphant took first in the 100-meter dash in 11.21 seconds, Bradan Dickinson took third in the shot put with 14.56 meters and Peter Littlefield also took third in the high jump at 1.80 meters. Other results from the meet include:

7th Place

• David Oliphant, long jump, 6.09 meters

8th Place

• Eli Pickett, pole vault, 3.22 meters

• Garrett Ewing, Hernan Hernandez, Jake Anthonysz and Bryson Jacobson, 4x100 relay, 46.85

Cassville baseball season ends

The Cassville baseball team ended its season at 10-18 last week with a 7-1 loss to Reeds Spring in the Class 4, District 11 Tournament. Keaton Shellenburger led the team in hits with 2, and six more Wildcats each had one hit. Isaac Hadlow went four innings, allowing 2 runs, 1 earned, and striking out 3. Ron Hudson, Cassville coach, said the game started on Monday but was rain delayed in the bottom of the fourth, picking back up on Tuesday afternoon, with Reeds Spring up 2-0. We came out [Tuesday] and walked 6 guys in the last 3 innings and made an error,” he said. “But, we had a good year with double-digit wins, and the guys improved a lot.”

Lady Wildcats qualify for state in 6 events

The Cassville girls track and field team competed at the Class 3 Sectional 3 Saturday in Camdenton. The Lady Wildcats competed in 11 events and had six events qualify for the state meet. This results in 10 girls getting to compete at the state level. The team finished fourth overall. This is the most events and girls to qualify for the state meet in the past 10 years. 

State qualifiers include:

Marianne McCrackin, Jolie Evans, Tori Mitchell and Annie Moore, 4x800 relay,  10:39.93

3rd place

Taitum Groves, Kyren Postlewait, Sharayah Seymour and Hannah Hackler, 4x100 relay, 52.53

4th place

Riley Morris, discus, 30.15 meters

Hannah Hackler, 200-meter, 27.08

Grace Yocum, Annie Moore, Kyren Postlewait and Hannah Hackler, 4x200 relay, 1:52.15

Tigers settle for district runner-up

The Exeter baseball team (14-10) finished the season last week as runner-up in the Class 1 District 5 tournament. The Tigers topped Dadeville in the semifinals, 2-1, with both runs coming in the sixth. Exeter held Dadeville to just the single run in the top of the seventh. Aaron Beck led with 2 hits, and Gretzky Lee and Cooper Patterson each had an RBI. Corey Hilburn pitched a full game, striking out 7. Against Billlings, Exeter fell behind 6-0 after two innings. Lee pitched 4.1 innings and Hank Woods pitched 1.2. Both has 2 strikeouts.
