Lady Wildcats 2nd in district track meet

The Cassville girls track and field team competed in the Class 3 District 6 Meet on Saturday, finishing 2nd as a team. The top four in each event move on to sectionals on Saturday in Camdenton. Full results include:

Cassville boys track moves 4, relay team to sectionals

The Cassville boys track and field team competed in the Class 3, District 6 Meet on Saturday, advancing four individuals and a relay team on to sectionals in Camdenton on Saturday. The top 4 in each event moved on. Full results include:

Wheaton advances 2 to state meet

The Wheaton track and field program sent six team members to sectionals this year. Lady Bulldogs competing were Monica Hinojosa (shot put and javelin), and Jenny Par (shot put), and Bulldogs at the event included Steven Chavis (shot put), Zander Dutra (110-meter hurdles), Fernando Gonzalez (110-meter and 300-meter hurdles), Chad Meyer (100-meter, 200-meter and javelin), Meyer, Gonzalez, Zane Johnson and Michael Hang (4x100-meter relay team) and Hang, Johnson, Cameron Brattin and David Bik (4x400m relay team). While everyone that qualified performed well, only Hinojosa and Meyer finished within the top four of their events to qualify for State. Hinojosa finished second in shot put, and Meyer finished second in the 100-meter, first in the 200-meter and third in javelin. He will be competing in all three events for our boys team. “We are so proud to send a member of both teams to state this Saturday in Jefferson City,” said Larry Meyer, Wheaton track coach. “Good luck to both of them, and of course — Go Bulldogs!”

Cassville earns comeback win over Spokane

The Cassville baseball team (10-17) overcame deficits of 6-0 and 9-4 to pick up an 11-10 win over Spokane on May 12. Isaac Hadlow made a sliding stop behind second base on a grounder in the bottom of the seventh inning, tagging second base with the ball in his glove, then getting up and throwing to first for a game-ending and game-winning double play. He and Zach Acheson also both hit home runs. Cutter Hicks threw 3 innings for win. Acheson went 3-for5 on the day with 4 RBI. Hicks allowed no earned runs and struck out 2. The Wildcats are the No. 4 seed in the Class 4, District 11 Tournament and faced No. 5 Reeds Spring on Monday in the district tournament.

Woods hits grand slam walk-off in win over Hurley

The Exeter baseball team (13-9) won its final regular-season game of the year in walk-off fashion on May 11. Tied with Hurley 3-3 at the bottom of the seventh, Hank Woods hit a walk-off grand slam to give the Tigers a 7-3 win. Woods led with 5 BRI on the day. Corey Hilburn pitched four innings, striking out 8. The Tigers are the No. 2 seed in the Class 1, District 5 Tournament and played the winner of No. 6 Hurley and No. 3 Dadeville on Tuesday.

Purdy upset in district playoffs

The Purdy baseball team (15-9) saw its season end on Monday night, upset by Marionville 4-0 in the Class 2, District 7 Tournament. No. 2 Purdy fell behind to No. 3 Marionville early and couldn’t come back. Marionville took the lead on a walk in the first inning. Brown took the loss for Purdy. The pitcher lasted four and a third innings, allowing two hits and two runs while striking out seven. Brown and Clay Henderson each had one hit to lead Purdy.
