Lady ‘Cats shine at Big 8 Meet

Cassville runners place in slew of events

The Cassville boys and girls track and field teams competed in the Big 8 Conference Championships on May 5, with the girls runners producing a strong showing in the 14-team event.

The girls collected two first-place finishes, in the 4x800 relay and the shot put. The relay team of Jolie Evans, Annie Moore, Tori Mitchell and Jordyn Stafford took first in 10:37.71. Stafford was behind McDonald County’s Melysia McCrory going into the final stretch, pulling ahead to win the race.

Kyren Postlewait, who signed two days before to throw at Missouri Southern State University, showed why the school sought her out. She threw for 12.04 meters, besting the second-place finisher by 0.27.

In other top results, Stafford took second in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:56.19, only 7.48 seconds off the winner.

The 4x200 relay team of Grace Yocum, Moore, Postlewait and Hannah Hackler earned third in a time of 1:53.20.

For the boys, two second-place finishes ruled the day, with David Oliphant getting silver in the 100-meter dash in 11.3, and Bradan Dickinson also silver in the shot put with a throw of 14.8 meters.

Oliphant also claimed third in the long jump at 6.25 meters, and third in the triple jump at 12.55 meters.

Both teams will compete in Class 3, District 6 Meet in Lamar on Saturday.
