Wildcats fall to Mt. Vernon
The Cassville baseball team (8-17) fell to Mt. Vernon on Friday, 3-1. The Wildcats managed 5 hits, but struggled to find home plate. Logan White led with 2 hits, and Corey Thomas went five innings on the mound, allowing 2 earned runs on 4 hits, striking out 3. The Wildcats also fell to Nevada on Friday, 16-3. Cassville returns to action today (Wednesday) at Spokane at 4:30 p.m., the last regular-season contest of the year. On Monday, the Wildcats face Reeds Spring in the Class 4, District 11 Tournament at 4:30 p.m. in Aurora.
Tigers 2-1 in close games last week
The Exeter baseball team (11-9) went 2-1 last week, with all games decided by a single run. On Wednesday, the Tigers topped Miller, 6-5, allowing a run in the bottom of the seventh but holding on for the win. Zach Lee led with 2 hits and 2 RBI, and Aaron Beck added 2 RBI. Hank Woods pitched a full game, striking out 8. On Thursday, Exeter fell to Pierce City 3-2, with both teams scoring a pair in the opening frame, but Exeter not able to match Pierce City’s run in the third. Clayton Rose knocked 2 hits, and Kris Allen and Corey Hilburn earned the RBI. Hilburn pitched 6 innings, getting 9 Ks. The Tigers wrapped up the week with a 2-1 win over Sarcoxie, plating a run in the second, then allowing one to Sarcoxie in the top of the fourth but matching it in the bottom. Woods cranked a RBI, and Beck pitched all seven innings, striking out 8. Exeter is the No. 2 seed in the Class 1, District 5 tournament, getting a bye and hosting the winner of No. 6 Hurley and No. 3 Dadeville on Monday at 6:15 p.m. at Hurley.
Eagles fall in Saturday doubleheader
The Purdy baseball team lost a pair of game Saturday at the Forsyth Tournament, 17-1 to Hollister and 14-9 to Marionville. Against Hollister, four Eagles managed hits, and Clay Henderson led with a hit and a RBI. Ezequiel Garcia went three innings, allowing 6 earned runs on 7 hits, striking out 6. Against Marionville, Osiel Aldava racked up 3 hits and 1 RBI. Travis Hughes led with 4 RBI. Alexis Aldaba pitched 5.1 innings, allowing 7 earned runs on 11 hits. Purdy is the No. 2 seed in the Class 2, District 7 Tournament, hosting the winner of No. 6 Verona and No. 3 Marionville at 7 p.m. on Monday in Purdy.
Wheaton third as team in district meet
The Wheaton Boys Team took third out of 16 teams at the Class 1, District 6 Meet on Saturday. The top four in each event move on to the Sectional Meet at Sarcoxie this Saturday.

Bulldogs topple Spokane, fall to Verona
The Wheaton baseball team (5-11) bested Spokane on Wednesday, 12-2, but fell to Verona on Thursday, 13-3. Against Spokane, four Bulldogs managed 2 hits each, including Kelton Park, who added 3 RBI to lead on the day. Park also pitched all five innings, allowing 1 earned run on 3 hits, striking out 6. Against Verona, Ty Hundson led in hits with 2, and three Bulldogs batted in a run. Brody Prewitt went 3.2 innings on the mound , allowing 5 earned runs on 4 hits, striking out 4. Wheaton is the No. 5 seed in the Class 1, District 5 Tournament, facing No. 4 Walnut Grove at 3 p.m. on Friday in Hurley.
Lady Trojans’ season ends in districts
The Southwest softball team finished the season at 7-13 after falling 13-2 to Pierce City in the Class 2, District 5 Tournament on May 3. Alli Fosse pitched for the Lady Trojans, striking out 4 batters.
