Lady Eagles keep on winning

The Purdy softball team (22-1) added five more wins to its resume in the last week, besting Exeter, Lamar, Lincoln, Sweet Springs and Spokane, outscoring the quartet of opponents 58-1. In an 18-0 win over Exeter on April 21, Robyn Schad and Lauren Schallert led in hits with 3 each. Schallert and Jessi Hoppes tallied 3 RBI each. Schallert also pitched all five innings, striking out 10. She followed up that performance with a no-hitter against Lamar on Friday and a 2-0 win. Schad has 2 hits, and she and Annabelle Bowman each knocked a RBI. Schallert went all seven innings and retired 14 batters. A doubleheader Saturday saw the Lady Eagles top Lincoln, 2-0, and Sweet Springs, 20-1. against Lincoln, Schallert managed 2 hits and Dally Craig added a RBI. Schallert again went all seven innings, striking out 9. Hoppes led the charge against Sweet Springs with a 6-RBI showing on 3 hits. Schad also tallied 3 hits and 5 RBI. Schallert pitched two innings, striking out 4, and Hadley Hughes pitched the other two innings, getting 1 K. In a 16-0 win over Spokane, the Lady Eagles scored 12 in the opening frame. Schallert tallied 2 hits and 4 RBI, and she pitched 2 innings, getting 4 Ks. Hughes threw the final inning, retiring all 3 batters. Purdy’s final regular-season contest is Friday, hosting Strafford at 5 p.m. District play begins next week.

Exeter 1-2 in last week

The Exeter baseball team (7-7) picked up a big win over McAuley Catholic on April 21, but fell to Fordland on Friday and Howe on Saturday. The Tigers topped McAuley 10-1, benefitting from a 5-run fourth inning. Hank Woods led in hits with 3, and he, Aaron Beck and Clayton Rose each tallied 2 RBI. Woods pitched 6.1 innings, striking out 14 batters. In the 3-0 loss to Fordland, both teams managed 4 hits each, but Exeter could not find home plate. Corey Hilburn pitched six innings, getting 4 Ks. In the 18-6 loss to Howe, Exeter against matched hits with its opponent at 9, but 8 errors by the Tigers hurt the team. Multiple Tigers had 2 hits each. Exeter returns to action on Thursday at Blue Eye at 5 p.m.

Blue eye bests Purdy

The Purdy baseball team (9-5) took a loss this week at home, falling 4-1 to Blue Eye. Osiel Aldava took the loss for the Eagles. The pitcher surrendered 2 runs on 5 hits over six innings, striking out 2. Purdy tallied one home run on the day. Aldava put one out in the fourth inning. Purdy collected 6 hits, with Aldava and Clay Henderson tallying 2 hits each. The Eagles travel to East Newton on Friday for a 3 p.m. first pitch.

Lady Trojans topple Blue Eye, fall to Sparta

The Southwest softball team (7-9), picked up a win over Blue Eye in a high-scoring, 19-14 contest on April 21, but fell the next day to Sparta, 12-0. Against Blue Eye, Olivia Ayer and Natalie Johnson led with 5 hits each, and Johnson, Jordan Martin and Anna Church each tallied 3 RBI apiece. Alli Fosse pitched all seven innings, striking out 6 batters. Against Sparta, Fosse again pitched a full game, getting 2 Ks. Southwest returns to action Thursday, hosting Pierce City at 5 p.m. in the final regular-season contest of the year.

Southwest tops Wheaton in Barry County battle

The Southwest baseball team (5-6) picked up a win over Wheaton, 5-3, on April 19, but fell to Spokane and Pierce City on April 22 and 23, 3-2 and 17-13. Against Wheaton, Coy Shrum led with 2 hits, and Ty Hudson, Zak Corwin and Brandon Brooks each earned 1 RBI apiece. Cruz Marquez pitched six innings, striking out 6. For Wheaton, Jackson Thompson picked up 2 hits. Kelton Park pitched five innings, striking out 5. Stats for the Spokane and Pierce City contests were not available. The Trojans host Blue Eye on Friday at 5 p.m. The Bulldogs host Billings on Thursday, also at 5 p.m.
