Lady Wildcats runners-up in Reeds Spring

The Cassville girls track team earned a second-place finish out of 12 teams at the Reeds Spring Relays. Results include:

1st place

Wildcats take bronze in Reeds Spring Relays

The Cassville boys track team took third place at the Reeds Spring Relays. Results include:

Wildcats split wins last week

The Cassville baseball team (5-7) lost a tough 13-2 decision to Hollister on April 5, but the Wildcats won an inter-county contest over Wheaton, 14-8, the next day. Against Hollister, the Wildcats gave up 4 runs in the first and second, then scored 2 in the fourth. Zach Acheson tallied 2 RBI, and on the mound, Corey Thomas had 4 strikeouts in two innings of work. In the Wheaton win, the Wildcats plated 7 runs in the first two innings and totaled 15 hits on the day. Isaac Hadlow and Cutter Hicks each put up 3 hits, and Hicks earned 3 RBI. Hadlow went 3.2 innings, getting 6 Ks. Cassville travels to Reeds Spring on Thursday for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.

Tigers get win over Verona

The Exeter baseball team (5-2) used a sixth-inning run to earn a 3-2 win over Verona on April 5. Exeter took a 2-1 lead in the fifth, and Verona tied the game in the top of the sixth before Exeter provided the winning run. Hank Woods led in RBI with 2, and in 6.2 innings on the mound, he struck out 15 Wildcat batters. The Tigers travel to McAuley Catholic on Friday for a 5 p.m. first pitch.

Purdy softball tops Crane, Mt. Vernon

The Purdy softball team collected 9 hits on April 6 en route to a 10-1 win over Crane, then worked its way to a 10-1 win over Mt. Vernon on Thursday, moving the team to 16-1 on the season. Jaclin Fenske and Lauren Schallert led in hits with 2 apiece Tuesday, and Bayleigh Robbins each tallied 3 RBI. Schallert pitched a full game for Purdy, striking out 15 batters. Purdy hosted Mt. Vernon on Thursday, with Schallert again going 7 innings on the mound, striking out 16 batters. She also led in hits with 3 and RBI with 3. The Lady Eagles return to action on Tuesday, traveling to Galena at 5 p.m.

Bulldogs fall to Cassville, McAuley Catholic

The Wheaton baseball team (2-6) had a tough week of games last week, falling to Cassville 14-8 and McAuley Catholic 13-5. The Bulldogs gave up 7 runs to the Wildcats in the first two innings on April 6, and despite a 5-run third and 13 total hits, they could not keep pace with Cassville. Ty Hudson led in hits with 4, and Brody Prewitt provided 2 RBI. On the mound, Lane Mitchell led in strikeouts with 3. Against McAuley, another early deficit, 4-0 after 2 innings, was again to much to overcome. Hudson again led in hits with 2, and he got 2 RBI, as well. Kelton Park pitched 4.1 innings, striking out 8. Wheaton returns home on Monday to host Southwest at 4:30 p.m.
