Local hoops seasons ending
Purdy boys go furthest in postseason play
District basketball tournaments have largely come to a close, with only one team remaining in contention.
The Cassville girls picked up an upset over East Newton on Tuesday, 32-23, and the Lady Wildcats will play at Mt. Vernon on Thursday at 7 p.m. The two teams have not met yet this season.
Cassville’s boys team was the latest to fall on the hardwood, losing on Monday night in the Class 4, District 12 quarterfinals to Reeds Spring, 43-24.
In Class 3, District 12 action, Purdy’s boys topped Sarcoxie, 48-38, but fell to Miller in the championship game, 43-27.
Purdy’s girls fell in the quarterfinals to Pierce City, 48-36. No. 1 seed Miller won that tournament, as well.
In the same district, Southwest’s boys dispatched Diamond, 76-55, but fell victim to Miller in the semifinals, 50-40.
The Southwest girls team was ousted by Diamond in the quarterfinals, 62-16.
In Class 2, District 12, the Wheaton boys were upset in the semifinal by eventual tournament champion College Heights Christian, 68-54.
Wheaton’s girls defeated Jasper in the quarterfinals, 35-21, but the Lady Bulldogs also fell in the semifinal round, losing to College Heights, 49-35. No. 2 seed Greenfield was the champion of that tournament.
Finally, in Class 1, District 4, Exeter’s boys fell in the quarterfinals to School of the Ozarks, 79-50. No. 1 seed Chadwick won the tournament over No. 3 Bradleyville by a score of 104-35.
In the girls tournament, Exeter lost a heartbreaker to Hurley, 47-42. No. 1 Chadwick also won that tournament.
