Cassville hoops hits road for districts

Girls No. 5, boys No. 6 in district tourneys

The Cassville boys and girls basketball teams will both be on the road next week in their respective Class 4, District 12 tournaments.

The boys (4-17) received the No. 6 seed and will head to No. 3 Reeds Spring (8-13) for a 7 p.m. tip on Monday. At the same time, No. 4 Aurora (11-11) will host No. 5 Seneca (4-18). The Reeds Spring-Cassville winner will face No. 2 Mt. Vernon (13-7), and the Aurora-Seneca winner will face No. 1 East Newton (23-1), with both semifinal games at 7 p.m. on March 3.

The district championship is set for 7 p.m. on March 5, with the highest-seeded team hosting.

The Wildcats have fallen to every team in the district, though they have not faced Mt. Vernon this season. Scores of the losses were: 45-40 to Reeds Spring on Jan. 5, 48-43 to Seneca on Jan. 12, 61-26 to East Newton on Feb. 2, and 67-36 to Aurora on Feb. 19.

In the girls’ tournament, the Lady Wildcats (10-11) picked up the No. 5 seed and will play at East Newton (6-13) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. At the same time, No. 3 Seneca (10-13) will host No. 6 Reeds Spring (4-17).

The Cassville-East Newton winner will face No. 1 Mt. Vernon (20-3), and the Seneca Reeds Spring winner will face No. 2 Aurora (11-11), with both games set for 7 p.m. on March 4.

The championship game is scheduled for March 6 at 1:30 p.m., again with the higher seed hosting.

In district contests this season, the Lady Wildcats defeated Reeds Spring 57-41 on Dec. 21, 2020; fell to Seneca 44-32 on Jan. 12; fell to East Newton 36-31 on Feb. 1 and fell to Aurora 45-28 on Monday.
