2-year-old boy dies after pool incident
Deputy performs CPR, had child breathing
A Washburn child died recently after getting into an above-ground swimming pool when unable to swim.
Gary Davis, Barry County sheriff, said on June 25 at about 10:40 a.m., deputies were called to a home in the 5800 area of Highway 90 in Washburn for a possible child drowning.
Deputy Kyle Kuhn arrived on the scene first and he and another adult performed CPR on a 2-year-old boy. The child’s name is being withheld.
“Deputy Kuhn performed CPR until EMS got there, and he got the kid breathing again,” Davis said. “We prepared a landing zone and the child was life flighted to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Springdale, Ark., and he was pronounced dead there.”
Davis said the coroner ruled the death an accidental drowning and did not order an autopsy, but did plan to get a second opinion.
“It appears it was just one of those things where the parents turned their backs for a second, and kids can move fast,” Davis said. “There were at least three adults there. They noticed the child was not in the house, and when they went looking, they found him in the pool. It was an above-ground pool and the ladder was in it.”
