Virgil Lee Harrington
Virgil Lee Harrington, a devoted husband and dad, a mentor to many, and a friend to all, died June 20, 2020, at his home in Tulsa, Okla., surrounded by his loving wife, children and family.
He was born March 23, 1952, in Sedro-Woolley Washington, to Bert Clifton and Henry Etta Harrington. He graduated from Kiowa (Okla.) High School in 1970 and received his Masterís in Banking from the Bankers Administration Institute in Madison, Wisconsin. Virgil married his high school sweetheart Donna in 1971 and was the proud father of Dawn and Ben.
While Virgilís career spanned numerous banks, he was most proud of his final 18 years of business at Freedom Bank in Cassville, Mo. During that time, he helped open the initial bank and 4 additional branches. To Virgil the members of the bank were not just his coworkers, but his extended family. He retired as the Executive Vice President of the Bank in 2017.
Virgil loved to travel, cook, and was a skilled woodworker and WWII History buff. Most of all he devotedly loved his wife, children and family, taking them on great vacations, coaching his kids in sports, leading parentsí associations and serving as an Assistant Boy Scout leader. He will be deeply missed and remembered most for his kind spirit, great humor and love.
He is survived by his wife Donna, daughter Dawn, son Benjamin, brother Richard, and an abundance of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Stanley.
The family will host a Celebration of Life at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2020, at Kiowa High School Auditorium. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Virgil to St. Jude Childrenís Hospital (https://www.stjude.org) or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (https://www2.jdrf.org).
