Calling all veterans
Cassville Democrat aims to print names of all Barry County veterans
The Cassville Democrat would like to recognize all those men and women from Barry County who served in the Armed Forces of the United States Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force or Coast Guard during World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Desert Storm or Desert Shield.
A group of volunteers will first go to the Barry County Courthouse, the VFW, and the Barry County Museum in Cassville to collect whatever information is held there. However, there may be people missed who left Barry County immediately before their service, or moved to Barry County immediately after their service. It is our wish to include all of them in this tribute.
The following information is requested:
• Veteran’s name
• Birth year and year of death (if deceased)
• If the veteran died in service or died as a result of service (due to injuries, Agent Orange, PTSD, etc.)
• Dates of service
• Branch of service and service unit
• Primary duty/duties (described in 20 words or less)
• War(s) in which the veteran served
• Significant battles
• Final rank
• Significant recognitions (above things like good conduct medals, etc.)
• Family remaining in the area
The Cassville Democrat reserves the right to edit this information. Pictures are not requested.
Veteran information submissions should not go directly to the Cassville Democrat. Instead, by Oct. 1, for veterans or veterans’ family members, please submit the requested information via email to: John Babb at firstname.lastname@example.org, for veterans whose last names begin between A and E; to Lynn Hilburn at email@example.com for veterans whose last names begin between F and K; to Garry Rose at firstname.lastname@example.org for veterans whose last names begin between L and R; and to Conard Black at email@example.com for veterans whose last names begin between S and Z.
