Cassville Alumni Banquet on May 25
The Cassville High School Alumni Association will host its annual banquet at 6 p.m. on May 25 in the High School Commons. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. The Alumni Association encourages all CHS alumni to attend. OATS releases May schedule
OATS Transit, a Missouri based transportation provider, has announced the following schedule for the Barry County area: to Springfield, first Monday each month; to Joplin, second and fourth Mondays each month; to Rogers, third Monday each month; to Neosho, first and third Wednesdays each month; to Mt. Vernon: fourth Wednesday each month; to Monett from Cassville, Purdy or rural Monett, first, third and fourth Tuesday each month; to Monett from Barry County, first Friday each month; to Cassville from Monett, Purdy or rural Cassville, second Tuesday each month; to Cassville from Seligman, Washburn or Exeter, first, second and fourth Thursday each month; to Cassville from Barry County Senior Box, May 24. Cassville area transit will be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Shell Knob Area transit is on Thursdays. Barry County transit is Monday to Friday (employment transportation takes priority). Transit to Monett from the Monett area is Monday through Friday. Long distance medical transportation is also available from Barry County to Springfield via the Intercity Express on every Wednesday each month. Rummage sale to benefit mission trip
Members of Cassville United Methodist Church will hold a rummage sale Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon to benefit the mission trip to Puerto Rico to help rebuild from Hurricane Maria. The sale will be held at the church, located at 701 Gravel St.
Barry County Democrats to meet
The Barry County Democrats will meet on Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the Cassville Branch Library. The guest speaker will be the party representative for the 29th Senatorial District. The group is also collecting hygiene items for the local food pantry. Everyone is welcome from any political stance.
Power of Pink event set for May 10 and 11
The Power of Pink Walk, Run and Auction will be held May 11 at the Wheaton City Park, with check-in at 8 a.m., the auction at 8:30 a.m. and the walk or run at 9 a.m. On May 10, there will be a dinner and auction at the Fairview Community Building at 6:30 p.m. People may register at www.powerofpink.com. Proceeds from the event will help the following women battling cancer: Anna O’Neill, Kathy Mullens, Dalinda Densmoore, Laurena Patton Collins, Jeanie Richards, Lori Youngberg Dodson and Casey Ridenour. Pre-registration for adults, before April 26, is $25 and includes a T-shirt. After April 26, cost is $30. For children 12 and under, and for seniors, pre-registration cost is $12, and after April 26, it is $17. For breast cancer survivors, pre-registration cost is $10, and after April 26, the cost is $15. Tickets to the May 10 dinner are $10 each. Seligman Spring Train Ride scheduled
The Seligman Chamber of Commerce and Arkansas-Missouri Railroad has planned the Spring Train Ride to Van Buren, Ark., from Seligman on May 18 and May 19 during Arts and Crafts Days in Van Buren. The all-day trip will start with departure at 7:30 a.m. from Seligman, returning at about 6:45 p.m. The train goes through the bootheels of the Boston Mountains, crosses three high trestles, goes through Winslow Tunnel and crosses 18 streams. Each passenger will also received a snack on the way to Van Buren and on the way back. Passengers may get off in Van Buren for lunch and the Arts and Crafts Days, where there will be music, vendors, book stores and antique shops. Southwest yearbooks on sale
The 2019 Southwest yearbooks are on sale. The theme is “Hit Rewind.” The cost is $25. Name stamping and icons for sports, clubs or graduation year are $5 each. The deadline to order is May 10. OACAC accepting Head Start applications
OACAC Head Start is now applications through the week of May 17 for enrollment beginning in September. Head Start is a school readiness program serving children who are 3-5 years old and prepares children and families for success in school. Children participate in a variety of educational activities. The program is designed to support healthy growth and development of children and to support parents in their roles as the child’s first and most important teacher. Head Start provides: medical and dental referrals, preventative health and dental assistance, screening and referrals for developmental, language, mental health, nutrition and speech, inclusion of children with disabilities and nutritious meals. Bus transportation is available based on bus routes and schedule for half day. Transportation assistance is also available for families to attend Head Start activities. Head Start invites children with disabilities to participate in the program. Full day, extended day and half day sessions are available. Families who meet income guidelines and whose children are 3 years old are eligible to apply. Homeless children and children in foster care automatically qualify.
