Cassville School Board Questionnaire: Lisa Roark
1. Is the school district doing enough to encourage diversity in its staff in hiring minorities, certified and non-certified?
Yes, I feel Cassville School has done an adequate job of hiring minorities. As an employer, it is my opinion that the color of oneís skin has nothing to do with their ability to do their job. That being said, currently, 3.3% of the certified staff at Cassville School reported themselves as minorities. Cassvilleís population is 94% Caucasian. I feel that is an appropriate representation of the people who live, and work, in Cassville.
2. What would you like to see the district do to reduce teacher turnover?
Ask the teachers! Evaluate why they are leaving, where they are going, then try to fix the problem. Sometimes itís as simple as listening to the employee.
3. How would you know if the school district has achieved the right balance between technology and self-taught programs versus having enough teacher aides for hands-on learning? How would you make sure youíre promoting the right balance?
I would need a run down of how much time students are working independently, on computers, or with a teacher/teacherís aid. I would also survey the staff and children. I think thereís always room for improvement, however, the first step is to evaluate if there is a problem.
