Southwest schools to host ‘Battle of the Classes’ Fundraiser

Wednesday, January 31, 2018

With an initial $5,000 donation, Southwest schools have recently established the Southwest Education Endowment Fund (SWEF). At the Southwest High School Homecoming on Friday, Feb. 2, the Southwest Education Endowment Committee will be holding a 'Battle of the Classes' to raise money for the fund, which will support Southwest schools by providing an additional source of revenue for academic programs.

Throughout the event, former and future graduates will be asked to work together with others from their class, competing against other classes, to raise money for the fund. An electronic tally board will be posted on the Southwest Endowment Fund website to keep graduates informed of how well their class is fundraising compared to other classes. The event will conclude at the final Southwest home basketball game on Thursday, Feb. 15, with the class raising the greatest amount of money recognized.

During the 'battle,' individuals will be able to make donations on behalf of their graduating class by mailing funds to the school district at 529 E. Pineville Road, Washburn, MO  65772, or by electronically donating through the Southwest Education Endowment Fund website.

The benefits of the Southwest Education Endowment Fund are:

• Interest earnings from the fund will be used for educational grants to guarantee future generations the benefit of donors' contributions

• Grants from the fund will be used for academic programs only

• All contributions are tax deductible

The immediate goal is to raise an additional $10,000 this year so that we can begin the granting process, and also reap the benefits of a grant that we have already been awarded. If we are able to raise $10,000 in the month of February, the Community Foundation of the Ozarks will grant $5,000 toward the fund.

Reaching our goal will increase funds from $5,000 to $20,000. To help meet this challenge and enhance the education of future Southwest graduates, you can donate online at the following web address:
