Gerald L. “Jerry” Thompson

Gerald L. “Jerry” Thompson, 84, of Rocky Comfort, passed away Friday, May 26, 2017, at Lacoba Nursing Home in Monett.

He was born Oct. 27, 1932, in Saginaw, Mich., the son of George Lewis and Garnett (Glover) Thompson. On March 26, 1954, he was united in marriage to Wilma Horton, who survives.

Additional survivors include: one son, George Thompson and his wife Sharon of Monett; three daughters, Brenda Thompson of Rocky Comfort, Diane Elwin and her husband Martin of Springdale, Ark., and Beverly Gibbs and her husband Jim of West Green, Ga.; one sister, Janette Jeakle of Lapeer, Mich.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one daughter, Wanda Thompson; two brothers, Owen Thompson and Tom Thompson and two sisters, Elaine Congdon and Joyce Brown.

During the Korean War, he entered the U.S. Air Force serving from Feb. 9, 1950, until Sept. 11, 1953. In 1962, he moved to Missouri. For 24 years, he was employed at Satterlee Plumbing and Heating Company in Joplin, retiring in 1996. He ran his own business in Wheaton doing Heating/AC Plumbing and electrical work.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church under direction of McQueen Funeral Home in Wheaton. Burial was at Union Cemetery at Stella.
