Wildcats duo invited to all-star game

16th annual Grin Iron Classic has hometown feel

The 16th Annual Grin Iron Classic has released its 2017 rosters, and several area players have made the cut.

Cassville Head Coach Lance Parnell will serve as the linebackers coach, and Cassville’s Rick Lawson will be the assistant head coach of the West All-Star team.

Making the roster from Cassville’s 2016 football team are: Devin Phelps, offensive lineman, and Gilbert Medina, linebacker.

Cassville fans making the trip to the game will also recognize several Big 8 conference players.

Monett sends Ian Meyer, quarterback; Mason Swearingen, defensive back; Michael Branch, running back; Alex Turner, tight end; Aiden Brown, offensive lineman; Kurran Bartkoski, offensive lineman; and Cameron Cody, kicker.

From East Newton, linebacker Coleman Booker wil participate.

Mt. Vernon will be represented by Garrett Hadlock, quarterback; Jarrett Massie, wide receiver; James Lee, offensive line; and Shain Lester, offensive line

Aurora quarterback Payton Evans will play, as will Seneca’s Lance Hymer, linebacker.

From Lamar, Anthony Wilkerson, defensive back, and Angel Contreras, offensive lineman, will attend.

The all-star football game is on June 2 at 7:30 p.m. at JFK Stadium, located at 1333 S. Grant Ave. in Springfield.

Tickets for the event are $6 each and can be purchased at Springfield’s two Ronald McDonald Houses or on game day at the event.
