Cassville hoping to bounce back from title loss

Chris Shore, Cassville girls basketball coach, describes this week as a bounce-back week for his basketball team after a disappointing 57-47 loss to Forsyth in the championship game of the Galena Lady Bears Tournament.

On Tuesday, the Lady Wildcats traveled to Verona. Results were not available at presstime. But, another game looms large on Thursday, as the Lady Wildcats head to Clever.

"Clever is a lot like Mt. Vernon and beat the Lady Mountaineers earlier this year," Shore said. "Truth is, we matchup better with Mt. Vernon than Clever. But, we can't shy away from these games. These are the contests that we need to shine in."

At Galena, Shore said his team played two great games and then got stung in the championship game.

"Forsyth was ready to play and we were not," Shore said. "They jumped on us early, and it took us too long to respond. We pulled to within one point but just couldn't get over the hump."

Shore said his team this season is lacking consistency and successful carry over from game to game.

"We shot the ball exceptionally well against Hollister and Southwest," Shore said. "But, we only shot 33 percent against Forsyth. We didn't respond to a little adversity in a game that I still think we should have won."

To fix the problem, Shore offered a pointed solution.

"We need more leadership to step forward on the team," Shore said. "The coach can't always be the bad guy every single time. We need players to step up on the floor and take charge when situations aren't right."

Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
