2 airlifted from scene after vehicle hits tree

Four Neosho residents were injured Tuesday in a wreck at 1:10 a.m. on Route W, five miles west of Butterfield.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Janet Santos, 26, of Neosho, was driving a 2000 Ford F150 westbound when her vehicle ran off the roadway on a curve and struck a tree.

Two passengers in the vehicle, Elnora Pelep, age unknown, and Martha Hadley, 47, both of Neosho, suffered serious injured and were both airlifted to Cox South Hospital in Springfield. They were not wearing safety devices.

Another passenger in the vehicle, Samuel Peter, 44, of Neosho, was ejected from the vehicle and sustained moderate injuries. He was transported by private vehicle to Freeman West Hospital in Joplin. The report said he was exempt from wearing a safety device.

Santos also suffered moderate injuries, and she was transported by EMS to Cox Hospital in Monett.

The vehicle was totaled in the wreck.
