Frana hurdles to gold at district track

The Bolivar Liberators and Lady Liberators swept the team titles at the Class 3, District 6 track championships at Carl Junction on Saturday, May 11. Bolivar's boys won with 96 points, and the girls piled up 120 points in earning their victory lap.
Cassville's boys were ninth with 33 points, while Monett placed 14th with 22.5 points.

Cody Frana swept the hurdle events to lead the Cassville Wildcats at the meet. Frana won easily in both trips over the barriers, taking the highs in 14.87 and the 300's in 40.78.
Both the Cassville boys and girls qualified for sectionals in the 4x100 relay. The girls' squad of Alesha Cousins, Jade Holloway, Grace Gouvion and Katie Sewell placed second in 53.42. The boys' quartet of Frana, Hayden Prater, Glenn Thomas and Brent Thompson placed third in 45.88.
Katelyn Pitts finished fourth in the discus, throwing 97'3", and Sewell was fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 31'8.25". |
Monett had a lot of entries but could only qualify three athletes to sectional competition.
Wes Abramovitz placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 18'10.75".
Jeremy Antill was fourth in the 200-meter, running 23.72.
Faith Schmidt struggled in her preliminary heat of the 100-meter hurdles but came back to take fourth in the finals with a 17.46 effort.
The top four places in each event will move on to compete at the Class 3 sectional meet at Ozark on Saturday, May 18. |
