James Elvis Starnes, 75, of Exeter, passed away Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, in his home.

He was born Feb. 24, 1936, in Ridgley, the son of Herman Cleo and Lillie May (Stewart) Starnes. On July 31, 1970, in Exeter, he was united in marriage to Jessie M. Cotton, who survives.

Additional survivors include: a special girl, whom they raised, Lindia Kisling, of Carthage; and two sisters, Louella Burrington, of Cassville, and Oletha Haddock, of Shelton, Wash.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three sisters, Wiletta Taylor, Pauline Crawford and Alene Spain; and one brother, Melvin Starnes.

At the age of six months James' family moved from Ridgley to Exeter, where he grew up. In 1956, he graduated from Exeter High School and continued living in Exeter his entire life. In 1964, he began working for Tyson Foods in Monett and retired from there in 1980. He was a member of the Exeter Church of Christ.

Funeral services were held today (Wednesday) in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Evangelist Bob Stafford conducted the services. Burial was at Maplewood Cemetery, Exeter.
