Elsie Marie Thompson Bowman, 101, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, at the Red Rose Health and Rehab in Cassville.

She was born on July 24, 1909, in Cassville, the daughter of Charley and Anna Henson Thompson. She was a lifetime resident of Barry County and was a graduate of Cassville High School. She was an employee of Johnston's Hardware and Variety store for several years, and was a volunteer at the Cassville Senior Center and Second Act. She was a charter member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church having served as a greeter for many years, as well as a Sunday school teacher.

She was united in marriage to Edgar Lee Bowman on Oct. 5, 1929, and he preceded her in death in 1969.

Survivors include: one daughter, Sue Ann Mizer and her husband, Bob, of Cassville; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Tunney Bowman, of Cassville; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Coble, of Cassville, and Betty Bowman, of Jackson, Tenn.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Bowman, in 1969, her son, Charles Lee Bowman, on April 12, 1958, one sister, Madaline Edmondson, and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were held Monday at the White Funeral Home in Cassville, with Rev. Bob Neeley officiating. Burial was at Maplewood Cemetery in Exeter.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Compassus of Monett and may be entrusted to the White Funeral Home.

Local arrangements were under the direction of the White Funeral Home, Cassville.
