Erna Hartwig, 81, of Shell Knob, passed away Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, in her home.

She was born Dec. 27, 1929, in Oeste Prussia, Germany, the daughter of Emil and Emilie (Schmalz) Hartwig, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were four brothers and five sisters.

Survivors include: one daughter, Heidirose Spellman, of Shell Knob; two brothers, Otto Hartwig and Osker Hartwig, both of Germany; two sisters, Betty Oswald, of Shell Knob, and Lenchen Distler, of Germany; one granddaughter; and one-great granddaughter.

She grew up and received her education in Saskatchewan, Canada. For several years, she resided in Chicago Heights, Ill., where she was an operating room medical technician for St. James Hospital. She was of the Lutheran faith.

No services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements are under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob.
