Nelle Campbell, 97, of Cassville, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at St. John's Hospital in Cassville. She was the eldest child of John B. and Hallie Yates Stanton who preceded her in death.

She was united in marriage to Russ Campbell on Nov. 28, 1938. He preceded her in death in 1991.

She grew up near Richland, where she received her early education, including a teaching certificate and taught school there. After marriage, she and Russ moved to California where she completed her bachelor's degree in education and taught school for 20 years. they also lived in Wisconsin where she continued to teach.

Upon Russ's retirement in 1969, they moved to Cassville where she taught briefly in the Cassville School System. She became active in community organizations, serving as chairman of the local Red Cross Chapter Bloodmobile program. She also served as president of the Cassville Women's Golf Association. She and Russ were active member of the St. Edwards Catholic Church, where she served on the church building committee and women's society.

Survivors include: one sister, Betty L. Bowman, of Jackson, Tenn.; and one brother, thomas B. Stanton and his wife, Dorothy, of Corona, Calif.

Services were held today (Wednesday) at St. Edwards Catholic Church, Cassville. Father David Miller officiated. Burial was at Maplewood Cemetery, Exeter.

Arrangements were under the direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.
