Vermo Roy, 87, of Joplin, formerly of Exeter, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, in Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.

She was born Dec. 9, 1921, in Martha, Okla., the daughter of Edward Lee and Minnie Delila (Ward) Sampler. On Oct. 28, 1945, in Wichita, Kan., she was united in marriage to Carl Roy, who survives.

Additional survivors include: one son, Ronald "Ronnie" Roy and his wife, Trisha, of Garland, Texas; four grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert Roy; three brothers; one sister; one half-brother; and one half-sister.

She grew up and received her education in Martha, Okla., where she graduated from high school. In 1970, she and Carl moved to Missouri, where they farmed, raising cattle. For several years she worked for Tyson's. She was a member of V.F.W. Auxiliary and a member of First Baptist Church, Exeter.

Funeral services were held Saturday in Exeter First Baptist Church. Rev. Jerry Yarnall conducted the services. Graveside services were Tuesday at Martha Cemetery, Martha, Okla., under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.
