Johnny Wayne Roberts, 73, of Shell Knob, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2009, in his home.

He was born Aug. 15, 1935, in Snyder, Texas. On June 19, 1964, in Derby, Kan., he was united in marriage to Jean Welch, who survives.

Additional survivors include: a stepson, William Douglas Stapleton; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jimmy and Gene; one sister, Joan; and a stepdaughter, Norlan Lynne Talbot.

He received his education in Snyder, Texas, and worked from the age of 13 until 17 on the King Ranch. He later worked as an oil surveyor on a seismograph team, then moved on to Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kan. In 1971, he moved to Shell Knob where he owned and operated Shell Knob Marine until his retirement in 1995.

He was of the Baptist faith, a Master Mason and Shriner for 50 years, and served on the board of directors of Shell Knob Community Bank for 26 years.

His body was cremated under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob. No services are planned at this time.
