All About Pets, which is located west of Purdy, marked its one-year anniversary with a special celebration on July 19. Those who attended the event were able to meet Dr. Billi Tiner, who joined the animal clinic's staff on June 30.

"Sam (Harkey, DVM, All About Pets owner) and I were veterinary school classmates," said Dr. Tiner. "We have been friends since we graduated from veterinary school and earlier this year he called me and said he needed an extra pair of hands so here I am."

Dr. Tiner graduated from the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine with Dr. Harkey in 1999. After completing college, Dr. Tiner worked at a small animal veterinary practice in Oregon for one year.

"Then I joined the military and served in the U.S. Army Veterinary Corp for three years," said Dr. Tiner. "While in the military, I was on the U.S. Task Force for the 2002 Winter Olympics. I was one of the vets who cared for the military working dogs there."

Dr. Tiner also served as the head veterinarian at Wayside Waifs Animal Shelter in Kansas City for two years, before spending two years teaching biology at Three Rivers Community College in Popular Bluff.

"I've wanted to be a veterinarian since I was 5 years old," said Dr. Tiner. "I have always enjoyed working with animals. I love animals."

At All About Pets, Dr. Tiner and Dr. Harkey offer professional kennel management services, including emergency cesarean sections, hernia repairs, puppy checks, surgical inseminations, health certificates and kennel inspections. The veterinarians also offer full companion pet services from routine healthcare checks to emergency care.

Other services offered at the local animal clinic include: small animal surgery; gas anesthetic; post operative pain relief; and full X-rays. All About Pets does not offer overnight boarding services.

This year, Dr. Harkey added a progesterone machine at All About Pets. The new machine will allow staff members to test progesterone and more accurately predict breeding times, said Dr. Tiner.

"The people of Barry County are very friendly and have been very accepting of me as the new vet," said Dr. Tiner. "I have really enjoyed being able to meet everybody."

All About Pets, which is located one mile southwest of Purdy on Farm Road 2090, is open from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Emergency services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
