Ernest Harold "Ernie" Newman, 60, of Cassville, passed away Friday, March 28, 2008, in Cox Medical Center South, Springfield.

He was born June 29, 1947, in Forsyth, the son of Earl Edward and Mary Lou (Wheeler) Newman. He was united in marriage to Earlene Daniels, and to this union two children were born. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include: one son, Steven Newman, of Cassville; one daughter, Susan Fields, and her husband, Les of Exeter; three grandchildren, Haley, Shawn and Whitney; his mother, Mary Lou Newman, of Cassville; five sisters, Marilyn Fortner, of Cape Fair, Earlene Harbor and her husband, Bill, of Reeds Spring, Carol Cook and her husband, Lee of Pierce City, Patty Holden, of Cassville, and Pam Clark, and her husband, Dale, of Cassville; three brothers, John Newman, and his wife, Rose, of Exeter, Donald Newman, and his wife, Linda, of Cassville, and Ronald "Freck" Newman, of Cassville.

He received his education in Cassville, where he graduated from high school. He was in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, serving from Oct. 6, 1966, until Oct. 4, 1968, and received a purple heart. He was currently working at Fasco, where he had been the last 32 years. He was a member Eagles Lodge and American Legion.

Graveside services with military honors were held Tuesday at Maplewood Cemetery, Exeter, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Rev. Bob Neeley conducted the services.
