Police open house planned

Thursday, April 3, 2008

Cassville citizens will get their first glimpse of the new Cassville Police Department during a public open house slated for Friday, April 18 from 1 to 5 p.m.

The new police headquarters is located in the Cassville City Hall building at 300 Main St. The project was completed in January after about six months of construction.

The city budgeted $434,710.41 for the police department project and spent $426,898.27 to get it completed. The total project cost was $491,528.27 but when the sale of the old police department ($64,630) was subtracted from expenses, the project came in under budget.

In all, the city paid $375,867.91 to Lacey Brothers Construction, which served as the project's general contractor. This total included $30,801.91 in change orders, which were approved by members of the Cassville City Council.

The project also included $105,252.78 for equipment, furnishings and infrastructure. According to Hayslip, this amount was $9,000 under the $114.255 budgeted.

As the police department was progressing, the council voted to purchase land located at 300 West St. and 302 West St. at a cost of $75,000. This land was then turned into a new parking lot at a cost of $43,620.67.

The new police department is located where the Cassville Fire Department used to park its fire engine. The renovation project converted that space into cubicles for Cassville's officers plus an office for the police chief, an evidence room and an emergency management room.

The renovated space also includes a larger Missouri State Highway Patrol zone office as well as a community meeting room and an office for the new economic development team.

Next week's open house was planned to allow citizens to view the new police department and become more familiar with the officers who are hired to protect and serve the city.

"All members of the community are invited to stop by to view the completed project and meet your officers, elected officials and appointed officials," said City Administrator Mike Hayslip.

Those planning to attend the April 18 open house are asked to park in the new parking lot behind City Hall on the corner of Third and West Streets and enter the police department from the Main Street entrance.
