Mary Elizabeth Roberts
Mary Elizabeth Roberts died April 20, 2007, at the Mimbres Memorial Nursing Home in Deming, N.M.
She was born on August 5, 1921, the daughter of the late John and Ellen Donohue in Washington, D.C.On Nov. 11, 1942, in Freeport, Long Island, N.Y., she was united in marriage to Cecil Maynard "Bob" Roberts. He preceded her in death in November 2003.
A loving mother and devoted wife, Mary brought simple elegance, grace and a passion for learning to their homes as Bob s USAF and private aviation career stationed the growing family around the nation and overseas. Stationed in Tokyo, Japan as part of the WWII occupation forces, Mary was enchanted by the simplicity and beauty of the Japanese people and their culture. In 1956 the family moved to the territory of Alaska, settling in Fairbanks, witnessing its statehood in 1959, enduring the severity of its winters and the grandeur of its too short summers. Retiring to the Ozarks in the early 1970 s, Mary and Bob settled first near Gravette, Arkansas, and soon thereafter moved again establishing a farm near Powell, Missouri. In 1996, they made their last home in Exeter, Missouri. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cassville.
Also preceding her in death was a son, Mark Owen Roberts, DDS, and a granddaughter, Mianna Joy Lyons.
Survivors include: two daughters, Carol Hoefer and husband, Walt of Deming, NM, Sue Lyons and husband, Vince of Seattle, WA; and two sons, John Roberts and wife, Linda of Bothell, WA, and WilliamRoberts of Powell, MO; three sisters, Eleanor Wiggins of Orlando, FL, Katherine Williams of St. Petersburg, FL, and Lillian Walters and husband, Thomas of El Paso, TX;12 grandchildren: Robert and Alexander Bettisworth, Amy Struzziero, John DeVos, Andrew, Scott, and Gregory Lyons, Dean, Paula, Paxton, Megan, and Aaron Roberts, and four step grandchildren; six great grandchildren: Boyd, Cleary and Stella Bettisworth, Andersen Struzziero, Haylely and Cameron Lyons, and seven step great grandchildren.
Arrangements are under direction of Baca s Funeral Chapels, Deming, N.M., there will be no public service.
