Democrat is like letter from home

Thursday, April 26, 2007

Dear Editor:

We are sending in our yearly subscription payment for the Cassville Democrat. We look forward to receiving it each week - just like a letter from home.

My almost 90-year-old husband, Kenneth Carr, is an offspring of the Allen and Molley Hailey / byron and Willie Carr families, of Cato. My families were from Carthage and Bartlesville, Okla. We moved to Cassville in the early 1940s. Dad was a carpenter. We owned and operated the Flood Bakery. Bill Coleman owned and operated it before we came to Cassville.

We are long-time readers of your newspaper. Kenneth s aunt Ruth Hailey Stumpff was a long ago correspondent. His great uncle Billy Hailey was a Berryville, Ark., journalist before moving to north Missouri.

The family was friends of the newspaper Ray family. Kenneth owned and operated a new and used furniture store with Col. W. Nicoll and Horine. After returning from WWII, he worked for Culver Funeral Home. His brother, Little Lige Frost lives in Searcy, Ark.

We really enjoy reading Bob Mitchell s column Ozark Views and Comments as well as the Through the Years column.
