Thursday, May 4, 2006

The Purdy Eagles baseball team has won the 2006 Ozark 7 Conference championship. To earn the crown, the Eagles defeated host McAuley 17-11.

Mason Roller started on the mound, and Spencer Terry came in to earn the win in relief. Terry pitched very well coming out of the bullpen, allowing only three earned runs in five and a third innings.

Roller led at the plate, going three-for-five with three RBIs. Ryan Veith also had a strong game, going two-for-three.

To advance to the championship game of the conference tournament, Purdy first defeated Exeter 1-0 in a battle between the two best pitchers in the conference.

Corey Moller pitched all seven innings for the Eagles, striking out 12 and giving up only four hits and one walk. The Tigers' Colt Higgs had an equally strong performance, striking out 13, walking four and giving up four hits and one earned run.

Roller drove in Terry in the sixth inning on a double and that run proved to be the game winner. Moller also doubled in the contest and Veith had a triple.

The Purdy Eagles are coached by Joshua Hughes.
